HEC Paris history: The CPA: ancestor to HEC Paris’ Executive MBA

On 11th October 1930, the Centre for Business Improvement (CPA) was introduced, with one main objective: to train leaders under the guidance of other leaders. In this frame of mind, case studies were placed at the centre of the pedagogical approach, constituting a revolution in teaching in France. First invented at Harvard in 1910, this method allowed students to get away from the theoretical approach in order to tackle concrete situations. The CPA was inaugurated in the presence of the Ambassador of the United States in France and the Dean of Harvard University, proof of its strong relationship with this prestigious Business school. In 1999, the CPA joined the HEC Group, before becoming HEC Paris’ Executive MBA in 2002. In 2014, HEC Paris was ranked number one in the world for its executive education for managers and executives (by the FT).
