Introduced in 1892, the entry exam for HEC was abandoned in 1906, before being re-established in 1913. The return of this selective and demanding exam provoked a wave of complaints from students that failed to pass or were disappointed by their grades. In this document, dated 26 June 1913 and written in fountain pen, the President of the Jury, Mr. Deschamps, declared that the “complaints, based solely on individuals’ personal interests, have not been and will never be taken into serious consideration.” He was also keen to take the opportunity to point out that “it is up to the Examiners to evaluate students and the opposite is just inacceptable.” A word of warning to those preparing to come and take their exam tests on campus: the jury is still just as tough now as it was back then!
