From 1881, HEC Paris Business School, located on 108 Boulevard Malesherbes, aimed to give young people “the necessary knowledge to quickly understand how to manage banks, businesses and industries and to train consular officers, capable of representing France in a dignified manner in international business relations.” To achieve this, chemical studies and history were naturally part of the curriculum , along with general accountancy, applied mathematics for trade, the study of goods and merchandise, commercial, industrial and maritime law, the Code Civile and even calligraphy.
